Introduction to Windows

Overview

Windows is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) Operating System developed by Microsoft© for PCs.

Windows primary function, as a computer operating system, is to run some of the PC hardware and all the software that is installed on the PC.

Windows also has utility functions that include:

  • Connecting to peripherals, e.g. printers
  • Connecting to networks, e.g. Internet
  • Housekeeping, e.g. cleaning up the hard disk
  • Repair and update facilities
  • Running sound and video facilities
